Learn more about ABA therapy in
Columbia and how it can make
a difference for your family.
What does ABA therapy do?
Applied behavior analysis, or ABA, is an empirical method of behavior modification that has been extensively used for children with developmental conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, or ASD. By reducing complex tasks into small, simple procedures, children are able to complete them. It's been effective in improving behaviors such as following directions, making friends, communicating their needs effectively, and increasing their attention span.
Learn moreHow much time does an ABA therapy plan take?
Each child will be evaluated individually to determine their needs, and their treatment plan will be tailored specifically to their needs and current skill levels. Typically, an ABA therapy program lasts from 1 to 3 years and is multi-disciplinary. These types of programs have provided the most long-lasting and significant improvement in a variety of areas. Focused treatment programs deliver between 10 to 25 hours for a few targeted areas.
Learn moreWhere are the ABA treatments performed?
Although ABA therapy can be performed in a clinic, it's often more effective when conducted in familiar environments such as the home, school, or community. Conducting the sessions in familiar surroundings often provides a broader range of behaviors that can be addressed, which can dramatically increase your child's ability to function interactively with their environment.
Learn moreWhy will ABA therapy help my child?
Children who have deficits in adaptive living, behavior, communication, and social skills are unable to function interactively within their normal environments. ABA therapy can improve their skills in these areas and enable them to live more independently and function at a higher level with their family, friends, and acquaintances.
