Learn more about ABA therapy in
Geismar and how it can make
a difference for your family.
What is ABA therapy?
Utilized primarily with children who have autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based therapeutic technique. It teaches individuals how to take complicated tasks and break them down into smaller instructional steps. This therapy has been used to successfully teach children with ASD how to communicate their needs, make friends, wait, ask for assistance, follow directions and attend to tasks, among other things.
Learn moreHow long will my child require ABA therapy?
The amount of time your child will need to undergo ABA therapy depends on his or her unique needs. If your child is in need of intensive services, he or she may need to receive services for one to three years in order for the most significant impact to their behaviors. If you decide to go with more focused ABA treatments, the programming tends to last for 10-25 hours and targets a few specific target areas for your child to improve upon.
Learn moreCan ABA therapy be done at a clinic?
ABA therapy experts have found that this method works best when it is performed at home, in school or within the community in which the child lives. This allows for the therapist to address maladaptive behaviors in the environments in which they occur. It also allows for the child being treated to learn the skills they need to function in daily life in the places where they are most likely to need to utilize those skills.
Learn moreIs ABA therapy going to help my child?
ABA therapy is highly individualized for each child. Your child’s therapist will work to understand your child’s current skill level and help to design a program of treatment that will best meet his or her communication, adaptive living, behavioral and social needs.
