Learn more about ABA therapy in
Portsmouth and how it can make
a difference for your family.

Has ABA therapy been proven to work?

Applied behavioral analysis, or ABA therapy, is an evidence-based method for improving maladaptive behaviors in children who have autism spectrum disorders (ASD) or other developmental disorders, so it's a scientifically proven method. By reducing complex tasks into small steps that a child can understand and complete, it improves behaviors in areas such as communication, asking for help, making friends, following directions, attention span, and patience.

How long is the treatment regimen for ABA therapy?

Since each child's ABA therapy is focused on their specific needs, there's no predetermined time allotted for the program. Each child is evaluated and the results of the evaluation determine the areas that need improvement and the child's current skill level. Usually, the treatment has a broad spectrum and lasts between one and three years. However, focused ABA therapy is available that provides between 10 and 25 hours of therapy on a limited number of areas that need improvement.

Are at-home treatment sessions available for ABA therapy?

When ABA therapy is done in the familiar environments of the home or school or community, it's often more effective than when done in the clinical environment. Maladaptive behaviors most frequently occur within familiar environments so this increases the opportunities for the child to learn independent interaction within familiar surroundings.
