Learn more about ABA therapy in
Austin and how it can make
a difference for your family.
What's ABA therapy used to treat?
ABA therapy, also called applied behavior analysis, is an empirical method of modifying behaviors that are specific to children with developmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorders or ASD. It breaks down complicated tasks into small steps that are easily understood so that children can gain self-confidence and learn interactive skills such as asking for help, communicating their needs, increasing their attention span, and following directions.
Learn moreHow long does ABA therapy take to be effective?
Each child is evaluated individually to determine their needs and current status, so there's not a set duration for the program. Research and experience have indicated that intensive ABA therapy for one to three years yields the most long-lasting and significant progress over several domains. Focused treatment delivers between 10 to 25 hours of ABA therapy that targets selected areas that require the most improvement.
Learn moreDoes ABA therapy need to be done in a clinic?
Although sessions can be conducted in a clinical setting, many times the home, community or school settings provide increased benefits because the child is functioning in natural surroundings. This also increases the number of skills that can be improved upon since these are the areas where maladaptive behaviors most frequently occur.
Learn moreWill ABA therapy help my child with an ASD?
ABA therapy is one of the most common treatments for ASD and has been successfully used for many years. The therapeutic goal is to correct deficits in their behaviors in the areas of communication, adaptive living, and social situations so that they are able to independently interact with their environment and in areas that are important to them and their family.
