Learn more about ABA therapy in
Converse and how it can make
a difference for your family.

How does ABA therapy work?

Each child is evaluated and their skill level assessed to determine the best course of treatment for them. ABA therapy then breaks down complicated tasks into simple, instructional steps that the child can easily perform at their level. It has been quite effective in improving the skills needed for making friends, asking for help, paying attention, communicating needs, waiting, and more.

How long will it take to complete a program of ABA therapy?

Since each ABA therapy program is tailored to the individual, there's no definite length of time for the program. It's tailored to the level and the needs of the child and focuses on the maximum improvement possible. Research and experience show that programs lasting between one and three years provide the most improvement over multiple areas for children who have autism spectrum disorders or ASD. Focused programs provide 10 to 25 hours of service that concentrate on select areas for improvement.

Can my child receive ABA therapy at home?

Since most maladaptive behaviors occur in the home, at school or in the community, ABA therapy is often done in these environments rather than in the clinical setting. This also increases the opportunities to learn skills that are specific to the child, their life and family lifestyle.

What results will I see from ABA therapy?

Children who have behavior deficits that preclude independent interaction with their environment or that impair their daily functioning can achieve significant improvement in their maladaptive behaviors. ABA therapy aims to improve your child's ability to interact with their environment as well as with their family on predetermined objectives.
