Denham Springs and how it can make
a difference for your family.
What's the definition of ABA therapy?
Applied behavioral analysis, or ABA therapy, is an empirical method for improving or changing maladaptive behaviors in children who have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, or ASD, or other behavioral disorder. It teaches the child how to reduce complex tasks into simple steps that are easy to complete. This builds the child's self-confidence and self-esteem and reduces maladaptive behaviors. ABA therapy is most frequently used for issues with asking for help, communicating needs, making friends, following directions, being patient, and more.
Learn moreWhat's the program length of ABA therapy?
The duration of each ABA therapy program will be unique to the child and will depend on their skill level and their degree of maladaptive behaviors. Typically, programs last between one and three years and are spread across several domains. Focused treatment is available that delivers between 10 and 25 hours of treatment that's targeted to correct a few specific areas.
Learn moreDoes ABA therapy need to be done in a clinical setting?
Although ABA therapy can be conducted in a clinical setting, it's often done in the home, school, or community since these are the child's natural environments. Conducting the program within the natural environment enables the child to learn a broader spectrum of skills that include daily living skills that are unique to their lifestyle.
Learn moreWill ABA therapy definitely help my child?
ABA therapy is effective at helping ASD children improve their skills in areas such as adaptive living, communication, and socially, which if not addressed, may impair their ability to independently interact with their environment. The objective of ABA therapy is to provide the child with independent interaction skills within their natural environment so that their personal and family lives are better.
