Fuquay-Varina and how it can make
a difference for your family.

What is ABA therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a type of therapy utilized in children affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other behavioral and development disorders. This therapy consists of teaching a child to improve or change his or her behaviors through educating the child to break down complicated tasks into discrete instructional steps. This therapy has been used to improve behaviors like waiting, communicating needs, making friends, following instructions, performing tasks and asking for assistance.

How long will ABA therapy take?

ABA services are highly individualized, which makes it difficult to give an answer as to how long the therapy will take. We do know that intensive ABA therapy takes around one to three years and can assist a child in making significant improvements in many different areas. Focused ABA therapy over 10-25 hours can assist in a child making improvements in a few targeted areas.

Should ABA therapy be complete at home?

ABA therapy is most efficient when it is provided in the home, school or community rather than in a clinic-based setting. This is because it is easier to instruct the child in daily living skills while the child is interacting in his or her natural environment.

Is ABA therapy going to help my child?

This type of therapy can help your child if he or she has social, adaptive living, communication and behavior issues that impede daily functioning. If your child needs assistance in learning how to interact independently with his or her daily environment, ABA therapy services can assist in teaching your child those skills.
