What is ABA therapy?
Also known as ABA, Applied Behavior Analysis therapy is a form of evidence-based treatment that improves or changes targeted behaviors within children who are impacted by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other behavioral or developmental disorders. Some of the behaviors that are addressed include communicating needs, making friends, waiting, asking for assistance, following instructions and attending to tasks. This method consists of a child being taught how to manage complex tasks and activities by breaking them down into smaller steps.
Learn moreWill ABA therapy take long to have an impact?
Since this is such a highly individualized type of treatment, it is difficult to say how long the therapy will take. Significant research in this area has shown that intensive ABA services lasting for one to three years assist a child in making significant improvements across multiple skill areas, while focused ABA services lasting 10-25 hours assist a child in making significant gains across a few targeted skill areas.
Learn moreCan ABA therapy be done at home?
Your child can receive ABA therapy in your home, at school, within the community or in a clinic-based setting. The most efficient and effective way of providing these types of services are in the home, school and community. This is because the child is given an opportunity to learn and improve upon their daily living skills within his or her natural environment.
