Gonzales and how it can make
a difference for your family.

How does ABA therapy work?

Used mostly with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA, is a therapeutic method backed by scientific evidence. It assists children negatively impacted by ASD in improving or changing behaviors. It educates patients in how to break down complicated tasks and skills into smaller ones that are more easily managed and completed. ABA therapy has successfully been used to teach autistic individuals how to wait, make friends, communicate their needs, ask for help, follow directions and complete many different types of tasks.

How long does ABA therapy take?

Since ABA therapy is a customized plan of treatment, the length of time your child will undergo it will depend on his or her needs. Research has shown us that children who receive intensive ABA therapy for between one and three years show significant improvements in several different skill areas. Can ABA therapy take place at home?

The best place to perform this type of therapy is at home, in a child’s school or within the community. This allows for the child to successfully learn how to manage maladaptive behaviors in the places where those behaviors occur. It also allows for the child to learn how to use new skills in the environment where those skills are most needed.
