What is ABA therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is an evidence-based type of therapy. It is utilized to improve and change specific behaviors and skill deficits found in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other behavioral therapies. This therapy consists of teaching the learner how to break down complex steps into smaller ones, making a task easier to manage. It can be used to improve communication skills, waiting, making friends, following instructions, asking for help and completing tasks.
Learn moreWill ABA therapy take a long time to complete?
The length of time a child undergoes ABA therapy depends on the treatment plan that is developed for that particular child. Children receiving intensive ABA therapy services achieve significant results in multiple domains when they receive therapy for a period of one to three years. Focused ABA treatments typically last for 10-25 hours and focus on developing a limited number of skills.
Learn moreIs there a preferred location for ABA therapy?
The most efficient means of delivering ABA therapy services is within a home, school or community-based environment. This allows for any maladaptive behaviors to be addressed as they occur within the child’s natural environment.
Learn moreIs ABA therapy going to help my child?
ABA therapy services can assist your child in developing communication, adaptive living, social and behavioral skills. Since the therapy is customized to your child, you will be able to decide which skills are the most important ones to work on. This sets your child up for success in building daily life skills, allowing him or her to interact more independently with the world.
