Learn more about ABA therapy in
Holyoke and how it can make
a difference for your family.

What is ABA therapy?

Short for Applied Behavior Analysis, ABA is a method of therapy that is highly effective when used with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This evidence-based method teaches children affected by ASD how to take a complicated task and break it down into smaller, more discrete instructional steps. This type of therapy has been scientifically proven to improve a child’s ability to communicate needs, make friends, wait, ask for help, follow directions and attend to a particular task.

How long should I expect my child to receive ABA therapy?

The beauty of ABA therapy is that it is custom designed for each and every child. This makes it difficult to determine how long your child will have to undergo these services. Recent research has shown that children with ASD who receive intensive ABA services for one to three years make significant gains across many different areas. Focused ABA therapy lasts for 10-25 hours and will work on only a few different skills.

Can ABA therapy work anywhere?

Current research indicates that while clinic-based therapy works, the most effective way of receiving ABA therapy is at home, school or within the community. This allows the child to be taught coping skills while in his/her natural environment, making the therapy more efficient and effective.

How will ABA therapy help with inappropriate behaviors?

Your child will benefit from ABA therapy if there are communication, social, adaptive living or behavior deficits that need to be addressed. This therapy will help your child learn to function and interact independently within his/her natural environment.
