Learn more about ABA therapy in
Martinez and how it can make
a difference for your family.

What is ABA therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA, is considered the most effective therapy for children with autism. It teaches desirable behavior by breaking up skills into small steps and rewarding the child every time he or she successfully completes a step. It's not a cookie cutter treatment; the therapist will individualize their approach to your child based on their skills, age and abilities.

How long will my child be in ABA therapy?

The best outcomes are when children have 20 to 40 hours a week of therapy, although this will vary as each child has different needs. Most children are in therapy for at least a year and up to three years or more. As children gain new skills, they may require less therapy as they progress.

Can my child have applied behavior analysis therapy in our home?

Yes, therapy at home targets skills the child will use at home, such as personal grooming and social skills with siblings. There is also hybrid therapy where a child goes to a center for some of his or her therapy. This removes some of the distractions present in the home. Your therapist can suggest the setting most conducive to learning.

What improvement should I look forward to after ABA therapy?

You can expect your child's functioning to improve in areas you and the therapist discussed in the initial assessment. Skills worked on may include hygiene skills, daily living skills, verbal communication, social skills and more. ABA therapy is customized to meet your child's unique needs.
