Milpitas and how it can make
a difference for your family.

What is ABA therapy?

Also known as Applied Behavior Analysis, ABA is a type of therapy that is used to help children change undesirable behaviors and to improve their ability to perform complex tasks. By breaking these activities down to their component parts and providing clear instructions, children can learn to communicate more clearly, to interact positively in social situations and to follow directions.

How long does a child need ABA therapy?

The length of time needed for ABA therapy will vary depending on the amount of instruction needed and the complexity of the issues to be addressed. Research shows, however, that between one and three years of intensive therapy is useful for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Focused treatment plans usually last for between 10 and 25 hours and are designed to address only a few specific issues.

Can ABA therapy be performed at home?

ABA therapies can be delivered in the school setting, in a clinic, through community-based initiatives or in your own home. ABA may actually be more effective in the home or at school because these are the environments in which most of the undesirable behaviors occur.

How can ABA therapy help my child?

ABA is designed to help children deal with issues arising from autism spectrum disorders and many other issues that involve communicating, adapting to everyday life and social and behavioral problems. ABA therapy can provide added help for children and their families in achieving goals that will allow them to interact independently with others and on their own behalf in real-world situations.
