What is ABA therapy?
Understanding Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapies may give you another resource to help your child if they are experiencing behavioral problems. ABA is an evidence-based method for helping children dealing with disorders on the autism spectrum and those with other behavioral issues. ABA therapies break the desired activities and behavioral changes into bite-sized chunks that can help children manage their behaviors more effectively in a wide range of situations.
Learn moreDoes ABA therapy take long to have an impact?
ABA therapy is individualized to meet the specific needs of each child. For targeted therapy focusing on one behavior or different types of behaviors, 10 to 25 hours of intensive ABA therapy is usually effective. Most children who are on the autism spectrum and dealing with an autism spectrum disorder can benefit from one to three years of ABA therapies to help them master the skills they need to achieve their goals.
Learn moreCan ABA therapy be performed at school?
Depending on the therapist and the scope of the treatment, children can receive ABA therapies in school, at home or anywhere else that is acceptable both to the therapist and to the child and his or her parents. It can sometimes be even more beneficial to receive therapy at home where undesirable behaviors can be observed more easily and where they can be addressed more efficiently.
