Pembroke Pines and how it can make
a difference for your family.

Overview of ABA therapy

ABA, also called applied behavior analysis, is an evidence-backed method used to alter or improve certain behaviors. It's a common therapeutic treatment for children who are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and can improve a variety of behaviors, such as asking for help, communicating emotions and needs, forming friendships, and attending to a task. This form of therapy works by using positive reinforcement to increase positive behaviors and decrease maladaptive behaviors.

How long is ABA therapy needed?

Since ABA has been extensively studied, researchers have found that receiving intensive ABA services for over a period of one to three years results in positive and long-lasting treatment outcomes across a variety of behaviors for children with ASD. Targeted treatment consisting of 10-25 hours of therapy is often focused on a limited number of behaviors needing improvement and is developed based on the specific needs of each child.

Where Can ABA Therapy Be Performed?

While ABA can be provided in a clinical setting, researchers have found that delivering ABA services in real-world settings proves more efficient and often has more positive outcomes. By providing ABA therapy at home, in school or within the community, children can learn socially significant behaviors that they can apply to their natural environment.
