Learn more about ABA therapy in
San Antonio and how it can make
a difference for your family.
What is ABA therapy and how does it work?
Applied behavioral analysis, or ABA therapy, is a clinically proven method for reducing or eliminating maladaptive behaviors in children with developmental or behavioral disorders, like autism spectrum disorders or attention deficits. It teaches children by reducing complex issues into simple, easily-to-follow steps that are easily achievable. It's been proven to help in the areas of asking for help, attention spans, following directions, communicating needs, waiting, and making friends, among other things.
Learn moreDoes it take a long time for ABA therapy to be effective?
Since each ABA therapy program is tailored to the specific needs of the child, there's no set time frame for the program. However, research and experience indicate that ABA therapy programs of between one and three years are the most effective over time, particularly over multiple domains. Focused programs of 10 to 25 hours can provide intensive ABA therapy for fewer selected areas that need improvement.
Learn moreWhich are the best locations for ABA therapy?
Although ABA therapy can be conducted in a clinical setting, it's often performed in a child's natural surroundings such as the home, school or community. These locations are often the sites of maladaptive behaviors, so they can provide specific areas for improvement as well as teach skills that may be specific to the child's lifestyle.
Learn moreHow does ABA therapy improve my child's behavior?
If your child exhibits maladaptive behaviors in the areas of communication, social skills, and adaptive living, then ABA therapy can provide improvement in these areas. The objective of ABA therapy is to enable your child to independently interact with their environment while minimizing inappropriate behaviors. It can increase the quality of life for both the child and their family.
