Learn more about ABA therapy in
Sanford and how it can make
a difference for your family.
What are the principles of ABA therapy?
A leading therapeutic intervention called applied behavior analysis (ABA) is commonly used to change or improve maladaptive behaviors in children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other extreme behavioral problem. ABA is supported by years of scientific research and is designed to promote positive behaviors, consequently reducing unwanted behaviors. ABA therapy can improve behaviors such as language and communication, focus, attention, and interpersonal relationships.
Learn moreHow long are ABA therapy sessions?
Therapists providing ABA therapy design programs to meet the specific needs of each child, which are based on age, diagnosis, and behaviors that need modifying. The longest lasting and most significant gains across multiple behaviors are achieved with intensive ABA services provided over a period of one to three years. Other more targeted programs focus on a few areas and provide about 10 to 25 hours.
Learn moreWhere can I receive ABA therapy?
Children with ASD can receive ABA services in their homes, at school, in a clinic-based setting or in the community. Researchers have discovered that ABA is more effective at improving maladaptive behaviors when delivered at school, within the community, or at home. Since most unwanted behaviors are occurring in the environments where the child spends the most time, teaching the skills of daily living in that real-world environment can result in more positive outcomes.
Learn moreWhat are the benefits of ABA therapy?
Helping children with ASD become successful in performing everyday activities and be able to live independently as adults are the primary goals of ABA therapy. Personalized programs that work with your child's current skill level are developed to target these specific skills, including communication skills, nonverbal communication, and social skills.
