Learn more about ABA therapy in
Summerville and how it can make
a difference for your family.
What's the purpose of ABA therapy?
ABA therapy, also known as applied behavior analysis, is used to change or improve specific behaviors in children who have autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other types of developmental conditions. By breaking down complicated procedures into small steps that are easily followed, children learn to improve their behaviors in areas such as waiting, asking for help, communicating their needs cogently, making friends, and increasing their attention span.
Learn moreHow long does it take for ABA therapy to work?
Each child is evaluated to determine the course of therapy that they'll need, and their treatment plan is unique to them, so there's no absolute time frame. However, research and experience indicate that a program of between 1 and 3 years provides the most long-lasting and successful improvements in many areas. Focused ABA treatment programs provide 10 to 25 hours of therapy that focus on specific, targeted areas.
Learn moreWhere will the ABA therapy take place?
Although ABA therapy can be done in a clinical setting, it's often done at home or in the school or in the community. These are more natural environments for the child and provide a wider range of areas for behavioral adaptation because these are the areas where maladaptive behaviors most often occur. This also provides the opportunity for specialized adaptive skills that are specific to the child.
Learn moreHow does ABA therapy help?
ABA therapy is beneficial for children who need improved skills in the areas of behavior, adaptive living, social skills, and communication. When done in a natural environment, ABA therapy can improve your child's ability to independently interact with their family and friends, and target behavioral areas that are of special importance.
