Terrytown and how it can make
a difference for your family.

What Is ABA therapy?

ABA is short for Applied Behavior Analysis. It’s an evidence-based therapy method that develops and changes specific behaviors in children impacted by autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ABA therapy educates children in how to break down complicated tasks into smaller steps. It’s been used to assist ASD-afflicted children in communicating needs, making friends, waiting, asking for assistance, following directions and focusing on a task.

Will normal ABA therapy take long?

Since ABA therapy is highly individualized, it will entirely depend upon the child. Recent studies indicate that children who receive intensive ABA therapy services for a period of one to three years show tremendous and long-lasting results across several domains. Meanwhile, focused ABA treatments consist of programming that is delivered over 10-25 hours and that only focuses on a few target areas of improvement.

Is ABA therapy performed at home more effective?

ABA services can be conducted at a clinic, home, school or within a community. In fact, it is most effective and efficient when it is provided in a home, school or community setting. This is so that maladaptive behaviors occur within the child’s natural environment, making it easier to educate, correct and apply daily living skills within the environment and situations that a child is most likely to encounter.
