Wilbraham and how it can make
a difference for your family.

What is ABA therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA, is a form of evidence-based treatment that can be utilized to improve or change behaviors in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other behavioral disorders. ABA therapy teaches a child how to break down multi-step tasks into smaller steps. This therapy has been proven to help children with ASD develop or improve behaviors such as communicating needs, developing friendships, waiting, asking for help, following instructions and attending to tasks.

What is the length of ABA therapy treatment?

Since treatment is customized for each child, it’s difficult to say how long ABA therapy takes. We do know that current studies show that receiving intensive ABA therapy for one to three years helps a child to make long-lasting and significant improvements across multiple areas. Focused treatment lasting 10-25 hours successfully assists in developing and improving a more limited number of skills.

Will my child’s ABA therapy be completed at school?

Most children affected with ASD respond best to ABA therapy when it is provided in a home, school or community-based setting. This allows important skills to be taught naturally within the environment in which they are most needed.

How will ABA therapy help my child?

ABA therapy services are often recommended for children with communication, social, adaptive living and behavior deficits that negatively impact their daily lives. Since programs are individualized to meet the unique needs of a child and his/her family, it is an effective means of teaching a child how to independently interact with the world.
