New Braunfels and how it can make
a difference for your family.
What does ABA therapy treat?
Applied behavior analysis, or ABA therapy, is a proven method of improving maladaptive behaviors in children who have developmental disorders like autism spectrum disorders or ASD. ABA therapy teaches children how to reduce complicated problems into simple, easy-to-follow steps. It's been proven effective for improving communication skills, making friends, asking for help, increasing the attention span, following directions, and waiting, among other things.
Learn moreHow long does ABA therapy take to be effective?
Each child is evaluated to determine the best course of ABA therapy for them, so the course of treatment will be determined by the child's needs. This means that there's no established time frame for a treatment regimen. Experience and research indicate that ABA therapy is most effective when the treatment lasts between one and three years, depending on the child. Focused treatment programs last for 10 to 25 hours and concentrate on fewer domains.
Learn moreWhere are the ABA therapy sessions held?
ABA therapy sessions are often held in the home, the classroom, or the community, although they can also be held in a clinical setting. When conducted in a child's natural surroundings, the plan is often more effective at improving skills that may be specific to the child's lifestyle. The child also learns specialized adaptive skills in their familiar environments because that's where maladaptive behaviors most often occur.
Learn moreIs ABA therapy helpful to all children with behavior deficits?
Children who have developmental disabilities such as ASD can often be helped to achieve more independent interactions with their environment and reduce the maladaptive behaviors that may interfere with their lifestyle. Although not all children will be helped with ABA therapy, it seems a high percentage of them will.
